The Friend who 'Reserviced'

Went for a drinking (tea) session aka 'Lim Teh Session' with my 2 close friends just now. It's our anything goes men's talk session where our deep secret (crushes/dates) and gossips (gosh) are dished around and the rule of the thumb is to go one up on each other on being Guai Lan, very Guai Lan, sometimes downright GL.

One of my friend just came back from reservice, he had officially completed his 1st ICT (in camp training). He spotted a old new hairstyle, and he looks like an army boy he's 2 years younger now!

^NEW CUI LOOK! 17 Jul 2007

^FUNKY OLD LOOK. 7 Feb 2007

I suspected the coffee shop aunty had a crush on him, maybe because of his suave new look. Because he ordered a kaya bread toast and here's what she gave him...

Heart-shaped Kaya Bread Toast (SPECIAL)

My friend is so happy! He took out his N70 and took photos of his token of love.

I give you my blessing, Ah T***.

Lots of Love,

GLK

[Disclaimer: Because I had bad experiences of running into serious trouble for publishing unconfirmed 'rumors' of my friends' love-lives in the past, I have choosen to conceal the identity of my friend mentioned in this post, until he wishes to go public with his new love. Please do not ask me to reveal his identity nor will I give him away even if you tag my blog/ msn me. I am a MAN of INTEGRITY!]

TAGGED BY Wildfire
(Reposted due to Heavy Protests Popular Demands)

These are the rules: Each player of this game starts out by giving 6 weird things about themselves. People who get tagged need to write in a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. After you do that, leave them each a comment letting them know you tagged them and to read your blog!

GLK's a weirdo..
1) I call myself Guai Lan Kia, but in actual fact I'm a REALLY Nice guy.
2) I am watch my diet closely each day, only to cheat on sweet (sinful, awfully-calories-loaded) deserts.
3) I like to be in the company of my many friends, but I love the joy of solitude. ( I am very FREE now, but the only friend I see alot theses days is my very Guailan Friend, Mr Chrispy. Read it ALL here!)
4) I am learning baking, NOT to impress a girl but to be self-sufficient. So I can eat all the sweet deserts ANYTIME I want them, and I can make lots of them to share with my friends. (Girls who want to eat my bakings will have to impress me first)

*NEW* Reposted

5) I am very FREE now, because of that I am reading this book called "Double Your Dating" by David DeAngelo. But since I have ZERO date(s) in the past year, I must be wasting my time, since 0 x 2 = 0. Dumb ain't I? Ok, I am SUPER Duper Free now, period.
6) An average man farts 7 times a day. If that's the case, I am twice your average man. (If I live in the 40s, maybe Hitler will hire me for his gassing chambers, cause my frens Chris and Lin say I give out German Gases).
7) I thought this tag game is dumb, and I didn't want to play. But I've finished it ANYWAY. So you better 赏脸 (give face) too. Thanks =p

What GLK has been doing this Hols? (Part 1)

Think Gavin did all the talking and watching while Chris and Lin (featured above) did all the baking?

NOT SO ok!

See those hands wrapped around the yellow towel, it is MINE. Did my 'fair' share of contribution too ok.

The baked pasta was heavenly, thanks to Chris for the improvisation when we ran out of lagasana pasta.

Farewell, USA Bound Impresarians

It seems that this year Impresarians (2007) have a few things in common.

1. They like going USA. Firstly we had Jinhui (Vice- Pres) who went to USA for exchange in Dec '06. 5 months down the road, it's now Yuwen, Eileen (Both Biz Mags) and Kai Xiang's (Progr) turn. They'll be there to work and travel.

2. We are sentimental people. Yes, once again the Impresario Committee gathered at Changi Airport to send off our friends and dear ones.

May '07

Dec '06

The travellers, Yuwen n Eileen.
OJ and GLK came especially to send our fellow Biz Mags off..
Hope they'll remember us, especially when they go shopping =p

3.
We are good at producing loving couples. Look at the no. of couples we've turn out already..

Impresario 07 Couple #1. The 'Bossy' Pair. 老板 n 老板娘

Impresario 07 Couple #2, the 小夫妻 ('Small Couple')

Impresario 07 Couple #3, the 'Twin Towers'.

A sign of things to come?? We have the small, now the tall, what about a small-tall combi next??

You just can't do it until you believe it.

After dinner tonight, my sis and I got into a conversation about losing fat. She was complaining that she's gaining "a little" weight recently. I agreed with her.

I had been on diets and training in order to lose some weight myself to certain levels of success, and so I thought I could share some of my insights with her. How self-assuming I was.

A point of note, my sis is 18 this year, and in the best interests of her, from MY point of view, this is about the age she should start getting "shaped-up", as most fat-girl-turned-hottie had gone through their transformation by the end of their teens.
An increasingly heated conversation followed.

____________________________________________________________________

GLK: Hey sometimes you just have to get the resolve and go through it. (refering to a diet/ training program) Do it once and for all.

Sis: You must realise that there is not an end to it. It (the process of losing the fat and staying that way) is always ongoing.

GLK: Ok, how about you tell me what's the end result you want?

Sis: There's no end to IT!

GLK: What do you mean there's no end?! Of course there is an end to all this. (I'm getting to it myself.)

Sis: This is just so not logical the way you said it, there's just no end to it.

GLK: [Pauses]

GLK: Ok, first you must set an end result you want. So what's the end result you want?

Sis: No [Voice raising]. You just DUN get it, there's no end to it, and you are sounding like a self improvement audio tape already.

GLK: Ok. [Silence]

____________________________________________________________________

I could sense her doubts, perhaps even fear that she will not be able to attain the sort of svelve figure that is so desireable.

Which brings be to one thought:

"For one to achieve great success, one must first believe in thyself's ability to attain it." Motivational Gurus.

In Mark 9:23 JESUS said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

I heard quotes like this before, used in situations by well-meaning frens/ family to encourage me. However deep down, there was a fear of failure combined with the lack of self-belief, which led me to believe that back then, that I was unable to meet with the expectations.

This made me realised immediately what my self-denying sister was thinking and feeling as my "harsh" words and expectations fell upon her. What I saw clearly as a totally attainable goal, she saw an insurmountable challenge.

Then it HIT me:

I wasn't so much different than my sister that I had assumed. Just so that I was able to go through my diet and shed inches of my waistline does not make me anymore superior than her. For when I was cast into a similar position once before, I chose the same option she did. Which is to continue living in my self-denial rather than to accept the greater vision that others saw in me.

This little experience taught me a great lesson, that is I must learn to expand my mind and broaden my vision, that I may be able to fulfil the destiny that God had for me.

I also taught me to be more understanding and patient in leading others, for I know that my sis must first see for herself the potential I saw in her now. So when the day comes, I will offer her my own experience and knowledge to help her attain that goal.

Till then, I have much work to do on myself, for there are many areas of my life which needs urgent addressing for now...

b) Deadlifts with 135lbs - 50 reps
c) Pushups - 50 reps
d) 24-inch Box jumps - 50 reps
e) Floor wipers - 50 reps

The guy in the video, Men's Health contributor Craig Ballantyne, a strength/conditioning coach in Toronto did it in 19:07.

This is something I will definitely like to try post-exams =D

"It's a brutal workout, starting out strong and slowing down, finishing at a crawl," explains Ballantyne. "I don't plan on doing that any time soon or, really, ever again."

I('m not) P(hysically) P(repared) T(est) 2007

On the last day of the last month, march, I was @ Maju Camp for my 'Officially' 1st IPPT. For those who know me, I had been training "abit" more than usual, in fact I "felt" like I'm in my fittest form ever, since the first 6 months of my NS days.

Reality checked. The saying "You think therefore you are" is NOT true, as I found out after my IPPT that day. Some people say they are not fit (hint: Ex-commando, 'Newly crowned' Director), sick, and still can run 2.4km in 9:43, and get 24points for IPPT, which is equivalent of my 'GOLD' standard.

I thought I could at least get a 'SILVER' this time, but for all I know my SBJ need serious improvement in technique. In all 3 attempts it took me, I just couldn't manage any better than 2.16m, which is a min. for the passing grade. I couldn't help but felt so frustrated and embarrassed of myself.

All the "egolistic" sense of superiority I felt moments ago while watching my fellow NS men struggle at the chin up station faded into oblivion. I myself simply ain't better than those who huffled and puffled, struggled and kicked their way to a 6 on the chinup bar. For all that matters (incentive$ wise) we're all on the same level, JUST PASSED..

For a while I wasn't too happy with the results (nothing but 'GOLD' is sufficient), it seems I can't rely on the IPPT for the much need funding for my Building Funds this year.

Well I was given a huge surprise on the following monday, the SAF sent me a sms saying that my incentive will be due on (last) friday. WOW! Since when have the Armed Forces upgraded their efficiency levels so much?? Haha, thank you GOD, this is a 'miracle'!!

Haha, at least I'm 100 dollar richer $-), but I'll be back for the 300 more!!

Next up: I(ntensive) P(hysical) P(repatory) T(raining)... May '07 - June '07

The shirts here are great stuff!! Woohoo, and this is infact a 100% Singaporean brand. I so proud Singapore have such a strong brands, other than the S.I.A girls.

NewUrbanMale is another great local fashion brand which have been doing great, and which I adore as well.

A VIRGIN EXPERIENCE (第一次)

Today is sunday, I woke up late this morning (ermm.. afternoon). Nobody's around as mum is at Church while dad went out to work, and my sister is still sleeping (like brother like sister)..

Anyways, I had always been saying that I want to bake chocolate cookies, finally got down to do it today.

It's my 1st baking experience, as I did not take home economics during my sec sch days.

Production in Progress...

This is the 1st batch, my very 1st chocolate chip cookies!! Hmmm, it's REALLY soft, somewhere between a Milo-dipped Digestive biscuits (= a little soggy) and a soft chewy chocolate-chip cookie.. It turned out too flat as the flour wasn't thick enough and the cookies spread out during the baking... However I still enjoy the very chocolatety taste, eMmmm, sinful ;-P

Pastry Master (in-training)

5 hours later, one experience richer.

Thank my dear sister Ivy for testing the cookies, running to the provision shop to help me buy additional flour, and for tracking my journey down on film.

P.S. To My lim teh kahkis and Mahjong kahkis,

I will bake some for you all, hmmm, next time.. hahah.. As promised =)

Yours sincerely,

GLK, aH_YaN9

Mugging at CITs...

Mugging in front of the computer. Although I'm in school, but it feels like back home. Well, at least I'm without the distraction of the lastest episodes of Prison Break and Naruto Shupuuden, and that's why I am blogging now, to distract myself, tension release..

Doing Maths 2 Tutorial 7 now, hope to finish before my next lecture starts. Have JJ Lin's songs running in my ears now, bringing me back to the SAJC mugging days with Cheng Yao and Tuck.. [Bu shi mei ge ren hui du shu hui du...]

That's all for the ramblings... Back to studies..

IMPRESARIO '07 Celebration!

A very BIG "Thank You" to MR Chrispy for the post event celebration @ Világe today.

A very generous and thoughful MR Chrispy, booked a dinner for all Impresario 2007 main committee @ Világe today. The "supposed" meeting time was 1830 (according to MR Chrispy's email), however our dear Chairperson (MR Chrispy) went much earlier to "set-up" the place.

Met up with OJ, Yao, Shanyi (Yao's missus) and MRS Chrispy and Eileen at Jurong East MRT. As usual, all of us were late (abeit slightly). Supposed meeting time was changed from 5pm to 5:45pm to 5:30pm and back to 5:45pm again, however by the time we boarded the east-bound train it was already 6pm. And just as per usual, the journey was trademark Impresario'07-styled. We had our Self-Induced "High' (Zi High) mode ON, and dishing out 'lamb' (lame) jokes around, throughout the journey. It really reminded me of the day of Impresario Finals, where the same few of us (missing Xiaowei, Yuwen, Yizhen and James) travelled to town together, also sitting at the middle section of 2 MRT carriages, sharing lame jokes and having lotsa fun. Others agreed that they felt the same way too.

Life's never dull with the Impre pple around, and time passes quickly. Soon we reached our meeting place, Summerset Somerset Station. Yao and OJ were carrying 2 sealed boxes with them, supposedly our (1 of many) 'surprise' for the night. The tight-lipped MRS Chrispy simply refused to let the cat out of the bag, despite our keen probing...

MRS Chrispy quickly spotted MR Chrispy upon exiting the gantry, and our MR & MRS Chrispy are reunited. Our entourage grew in size as we are joined by Kelly, Yizhen and Shirong (or rather we joined them, as they had been waiting for us all along).

Világe here we come.
